Vickie Y. Mabry-Height, MD, MPH, FACP is a 40+ year physician enterpreneur and powerful keynote speaker. She has a proven prescription for changing adversity into opportunities despite circumstance.
She is the President and CEO of Medical & Compensation Consultants, a consulting firm that develops healthcare programs for private and government agencies in the area of employee health & wellness as well as worker’s compensation. She has 30+ years as a real estate investor and is endorsed by one of the world's leading motivational speakers, Mr. Les Brown.
She was born in Greenville, North Carolina but lived most of her life in New York City. Dr. Height graduated summa cum laude from York College of the City University of New York before earning her M.D. degree from Yeshiva University & Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Because of an interest in improving the delivery of healthcare to underserved populations, she pursued a Fellowship from the National Medical Fellowship that allowed her to volunteer as a “foot doctor,” in Kenya during her medical training. Her internship and first year residency were at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University. She completed her residency at the University of Southern California (USC) and Good Samaritan Hospital in Internal Medicine in 1984.
In 1989 she graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles, with a Masters in Public Health with an emphasis in Environmental & Occupational Toxicology. The American Board of Internal Medicine certified her in internal medicine in 1990, and she is board eligible in Occupational Medicine.
Dr. Mabry-Height was selected by the California Healthcare Foundation as a Leadership Fellow, which she completed in September 2004. Her leadership has extended beyond the workplace and medicine to community organizations. She is the past President and Chair of the Board of Directors for a public non-profit organization that provided services to over 350 chemically dependent and abused children. She also successfully negotiated a contract for medical services from the Betty Ford Center for the families and children participating in this program. She was also on the advisory board for The Center for Educational Achievement, a non-profit corporation that provided science educational programs encouraging children to pursue health science careers. She has received awards recognizing her contributions to the United States Postal Service, and was the recipient of a Congressional Award for Community Service in 2001, for her volunteer work with abused children.
Among many educational activities, Dr. Height is a mentor to medical students, and was a prior Assistant Clinical Professor in Internal Medicine at Loma Linda University School of Medicine. She was also a past Associate Medical Director for the United States Postal Service for Southern California where she was responsible for medical policy and operations for programs providing services to over 16,000 employees. She maintains a part-time Internal Medicine practice that includes care of “high-risk,” adolescents.
Professionally her interests include focusing on healthcare policies that will eliminate the disparities in healthcare services to underprivileged children and senior citizens. In 2010 she was selected by the American College of Physicians as a Fellow (FACP). She enjoys quilting, international travel, remodeling old homes, and spending time with her family. She is a member of the American College of Physicians, as well as the National Medical Association and Toastmasters.
